Thurles
Co. Tipperary

Description
Sherry FitzGerald Gleeson are thrilled to present this rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a traditional Irish residence, together with c. 67.5 acres of top quality agricultural land.
'Turtulla Lodge', situated on the outskirts of Thurles Town, in County Tipperary and is set in the heart of the Golden Vale, incorporating some of the finest fertile land in Ireland. Thurles is a Cathedral Town with a population of 8,000 approx., and the birthplace of the GAA or the Gaelic Athletic Association, the body that choreographs our traditional Irish sports.
Built in the mid eighteen hundreds and extended in the last century, Turtulla Lodge originated as a grand Farmhouse with a lovely out-building, incorporating a two storey stone-built Coach House with three stables and overhead grain storage. The homestead was later enlarged with the addition of further bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom in more recent years. Approached by a narrow stone lined avenue, the character of the original courtyard appears and captures the memory of farming activities in times past.
Although the main house requires considerable upgrading and modification, there are many original features, including the proportions of the two reception rooms and main bedrooms. The southern aspect of the facade, supports a balconied porch and overlooks an original eighteenth century landscape feature, a Ha-Ha. The point of the ha-ha, was to give the viewer of the garden the illusion of an unbroken, continuous rolling lawn, whilst providing boundaries for grazing livestock. To the rear of the outbuildings lies a walled-in kitchen garden which was the pride and joy of previous generations of the Owner family, making them self sufficient in all manner of fruits and vegetables annually.
